Liverpool received a substantial £150 million offer from Al-Ittihad for their dynamic winger during the summer transfer window. However, the Reds, with no intention of letting go of arguably their best player, turned down the proposal. Yet, with Salah’s contract situation stirring speculation, there’s a chance Liverpool might reluctantly consider selling.
While some media sections suggest the 31-year-old is inclined to extend his stay at Anfield, these claims lack wide reporting. Salah’s contract running until 2025 might prompt Liverpool’s owners FSG to consider a profitable sale in 2024.
Selling Salah for over £150 million would be a fantastic move for The Reds. Approaching 32 in June, although he hasn’t shown signs of decline, the inevitability of time catching up with footballers remains.
According to ESPN, Liverpool is poised to receive another bid for their prolific attacker in January. The report suggests that ‘Al Ittihad’ is expected to come back with a fresh offer for Mohamed Salah.
ESPN also shared extensive comments from Michael Emenalo, the director of football for the Saudi Pro League. He outlined the SPL’s future strategy in targeting top-tier players rather than a scattered approach used previously, with the intent to sign big names like Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and Neymar, despite the belief that they might be past their prime.
Emenalo stated, “We believe future additions will focus on acquiring players of the highest level… Our goal is to develop local talent and infrastructure to match global standards, similar to what has been seen in leagues like England.”
Furthermore, Emenalo highlighted that acquiring lower-profile overseas players would take a backseat to focus on building Saudi talent for the 2034 World Cup. The aim is to avoid overcrowding the league with foreign signings and instead invest in top-tier players like Salah to elevate the overall quality and development of the league and national team.
