According to Defensa Central, there are reports indicating that Manchester City intends to sell a midfielder. Ange Postecoglou may be considering a new midfielder in January to strengthen the team’s choices.

Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr are set to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations, and there’s uncertainty surrounding Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s future. As a result, there are suggestions that Tottenham might aim to attract Kalvin Phillips from the Etihad Stadium.

The Telegraph previously mentioned that Johan Lange, Tottenham’s new technical director, is a big admirer of Phillips. A recent report from Spain suggests that City is actively seeking to offload Phillips in January. According to Defensa Central, City is already exploring potential destinations for Phillips.

City has allegedly reached out to Real Madrid via intermediaries and proposed the idea of signing the English player. City is reportedly seeking around £43 million for Phillips, but Madrid doesn’t seem keen on the deal.

Phillips, who moved from Leeds United to City last summer for about £45 million, hasn’t had a consistent place in the team under Pep Guardiola despite his exceptional form at Leeds. Spurs lack depth in midfield, and signing a player of Phillips’ caliber would be beneficial for the squad.

The 27-year-old has showcased his quality in the Premier League and performed well for England in the Euros just a couple of years ago. However, it’s uncertain whether he would secure more playing time at Spurs than he currently experiences at City.

While Bissouma and Sarr have excelled this season, and Rodrigo Bentancur has returned after an injury layoff, Phillips’ future at his current club remains uncertain.
