Getafe intends to initiate discussions with Manchester United concerning a permanent transfer for Mason Greenwood in April, coinciding with Premier League clubs monitoring his performance.

Greenwood faced legal issues in January 2022 but was later cleared of the charges due to witness withdrawals and new evidence. Man Utd conducted an internal investigation, absolving Greenwood of the initial charges but acknowledging his errors. Consequently, they loaned him to Getafe for the 2023-24 season, where Greenwood’s impact has been on the rise, tallying four goals and three assists in 11 appearances, including a notable recent streak of contributions.

The 22-year-old expressed openness to extending his stay at Getafe, aligning with his increasing importance in the team under manager Jose Bordalas. Getafe’s officials plan to discuss Greenwood’s permanent signing with Man Utd in April, considering his performance trajectory post the legal ordeal and evaluating his market value.

Greenwood appears content with life in Madrid, enjoying various aspects such as the lifestyle, climate, and lesser media scrutiny compared to the Premier League environment. Getafe has actively supported his adaptation by encouraging him to learn Spanish, a move that has contributed to his integration.

Notably, English top-flight clubs have dispatched scouts to monitor Greenwood’s progress at Getafe and have been impressed by his impact on the team. Despite potential interest from these clubs, Greenwood’s reported satisfaction in Spain suggests he might reject Premier League advances, possibly staying at Getafe. Moreover, a move to an English rival of Man Utd seems improbable due to the anticipated criticism and controversy surrounding such a transfer.
