Mason Greenwood: Man Utd is “willing to incorporate” the striker into the team, subject to one need

Recent reports suggest that Mason Greenwood might find himself back in the Manchester United squad this summer if the club struggles to secure a buyer for the talented striker. Greenwood, currently on loan at La Liga outfit Getafe, faced serious allegations last year, including attempted rape and assault. However, the Crown Prosecution Service dropped the case in February last year.

With INEOS taking control of football operations at Old Trafford, there has been anticipation regarding a fresh decision on Greenwood’s future. Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe indicated earlier this year that a decision regarding Greenwood’s status would be revisited once the summer arrives. Reports from last year suggested that Man Utd intended to keep Greenwood after an internal inquiry, but public outcry influenced a more cautious approach.

Ratcliffe clarified that no final decision has been made yet, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive evaluation upon Greenwood’s return. He highlighted that the club has several players, including Greenwood, whose situations require deliberation and decision-making.

Regarding Greenwood’s potential return to Manchester United, recent reports from The Times (via Goal) indicate that the club is open to absorbing him back into the squad if they fail to receive suitable offers. Man Utd is reportedly aiming to secure a transfer fee between £30m and £40m for Greenwood, with Juventus expressing interest in acquiring the services of the loaned-out player from Getafe.

Despite United’s openness to reintegrate Greenwood, Getafe is also interested in retaining the young striker, possibly on loan for another season. Manager Jose Bordalas has acknowledged that discussions regarding Greenwood’s future haven’t taken place yet, emphasizing the importance of finishing the current season positively for both the player and the club.

Bordalas mentioned that decisions about Greenwood’s future, whether at Getafe or elsewhere, will depend on various factors, including the player’s club preferences and mutual agreements between parties involved. The coming months are crucial for Greenwood as his future footballing journey is being carefully considered and evaluated by all parties concerned.
