Manchester United is reportedly considering Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, a Premier League player who struggled previously, for their upcoming striker signing in the January transfer window. United’s goal-scoring has been challenging this season, only surpassing the low goal tallies of bottom-tier teams like Burnley and Sheffield United, managing just 22 goals so far.

The team’s main issue revolves around their center-forwards, Rasmus Hojlund and Anthony Martial, who have collectively scored a meager two goals in the league this season. Consequently, the Red Devils are actively seeking more attacking prowess, with reports from The Athletic suggesting that they have identified four potential candidates, all from the Bundesliga.

Among these options are Thomas Muller, a revered figure at Bayern Munich, and Serhou Guirassy, who has been making waves at Stuttgart. Timo Werner from RB Leipzig has also resurfaced as a target for United. Talks are reportedly underway to secure the 27-year-old Werner, just a year and a half after his underwhelming stint at Chelsea.

However, the most surprising inclusion on their radar is Choupo-Moting, seen as a cost-effective choice due to his contract with Bayern expiring soon. The 34-year-old striker’s previous stint in England with Stoke City in 2018 was unimpressive, recording only five goals in 32 games during the club’s relegation season to the Championship.

Despite his lackluster performance in England, Choupo-Moting gained attention after joining PSG, where he achieved a cult hero status by contributing to the team’s journey to their first Champions League final, although his record of nine goals in 51 games was modest.

His recent tenure at Bayern Munich has been more fruitful, hitting a career-best of 17 goals in the previous season. However, this season, he’s been playing second fiddle to Harry Kane. The extent of his willingness to move to Old Trafford and the seriousness of United’s interest in him are yet to be determined.

Shifting focus, Erik ten Hag’s team seems close to resolving the situation with outcast Jadon Sancho. The former club Borussia Dortmund appears poised to take the English winger back on loan.
