Liverpool risk making Nunez mistake as they join race for Man Utd target

According to reports from German media, Liverpool has entered the competition to secure the signing of Benjamin Sesko. The RB Leipzig forward is highly sought after across Europe and has been for quite some time. Despite attempts from Manchester United to acquire him over two summers, he ended up joining RB Salzburg’s sister club. Arsenal, Chelsea, and AC Milan are also reportedly monitoring the 20-year-old, who has drawn comparisons to Erling Haaland due to his career trajectory through Austria and Germany, coupled with his consistent goal-scoring ability.

However, Sesko has faced challenges since joining Leipzig. Despite being signed alongside Lois Openda, who became the preferred center-forward, Sesko initially served as a substitute. Recently, though, he has become a regular starter, although his performance against Real Madrid highlighted some shortcomings in his finishing. While his tally of 10 goals in 28 games is respectable, critics point out his inconsistency in big matches.

Liverpool’s interest in Sesko mirrors their previous pursuit of Darwin Nunez, who has struggled to replicate his previous form in the Premier League. Sesko carries a €50 million release clause in his Leipzig contract, attracting attention from Liverpool and Manchester City. However, there are concerns about whether Sesko is ready for the demands of the Premier League, raising doubts about whether Liverpool would be wise to invest heavily in him at this stage.

Any club triggering Sesko’s release clause would be investing in his potential, which is undoubtedly significant. While Sesko has the potential to evolve into a top-tier striker, Liverpool may hesitate to make him the focal point of their team post-Jurgen Klopp, considering he may still be a work in progress.
