Gray, a 17-year-old central midfielder making a name for himself at Leeds, nearly broke Peter Lorimer’s record as the youngest player for the club during the 2021-22 season. Despite being only 16 at the time, he earned a spot on Leeds’ bench for several Premier League matches. Having impressed in senior training and for Leeds’ U18s, Gray made his debut in August of this year, accumulating 17 appearances across all competitions.

Known for his versatility in both central midfield and right-back positions, Gray has drawn comparisons to Trent Alexander-Arnold. Liverpool has shown keen interest in the England U19 international, reportedly preparing a bid of £40-50 million for next summer. While Leeds is aware of the growing interest and has set a lofty price tag, Liverpool is not the only club scouting Gray, according to transfer expert Romano.

Although there is no concrete negotiation yet, Liverpool appreciates Gray’s talent, and scouts have followed him closely. The move to Liverpool could signify a significant step in Gray’s career, benefitting from Jurgen Klopp’s track record in nurturing young players, similar to Harvey Elliott. However, competition for Gray’s signing is expected, with Manchester United possibly submitting an offer. The speculated £40-50 million fee might face reluctance, but Gray’s contract with Leeds is set to expire in June 2025, potentially leading to a discounted transfer.
