The Daily Star has now included Liverpool as contenders for Wirtz’s signature. The presence of Jurgen Klopp at Anfield, with his strong connections in German football, positions the Reds as potential candidates to sign the 20-year-old. Klopp is said to view Wirtz as a compelling addition to Liverpool’s attacking line, particularly amid the ongoing speculation about Mohamed Salah’s future.
Manchester City and Bayern Munich have been seen as leading contenders for Wirtz, and Chelsea also holds a confirmed interest. The potential entry of Liverpool into the race could change the dynamics of the pursuit.
However, any interested club would need to meet Bayer Leverkusen’s asking price of around £80 million and wait until the summer transfer window. Bayer Leverkusen remains resolute in holding on to Wirtz, especially with their strong Bundesliga position, ruling out any January sale.
Intriguingly, Man Utd was previously informed about Wirtz during Ralf Rangnick’s tenure at the club. However, the opportunity to sign him was not pursued, similar to other targets identified during that time.
The Daily Star mentioned that Wirtz believes he has more appealing prospects than Man Utd and would likely turn down any renewed interest from the Red Devils. Consequently, it seems that Man Utd’s chances of securing Wirtz were lost with Rangnick’s departure.
