Barcelona “makes moves” to entice Manchester United to sign Greenwood for a “low cost” deal.

by LAVIZKID

Barcelona have initiated the process of securing Mason Greenwood’s signature, with the La Liga powerhouse exploring innovative strategies to acquire the Manchester United forward at a reduced cost during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Currently on loan at Getafe, Greenwood has thrived this season, contributing six goals and five assists primarily from the right flank. At 22 years old, he is expected to be put up for sale by United this summer, following his absence from the club since his January 2022 arrest. However, the possibility of Greenwood’s return hasn’t been completely ruled out by new executive Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Nevertheless, his contract with United is nearing its conclusion, prompting the club to consider the potential backlash of his return, while a sale would bolster their financial flexibility for the summer transfer market.

La Liga president Javier Tebas has expressed his desire for Greenwood to continue his career in Spain, with various clubs expressing interest in acquiring the talented Englishman after his resurgence this season.

Barcelona aims to position themselves as frontrunners in the race for Greenwood’s signature, reportedly initiating steps towards fostering closer ties with United, though no agreement has been reached yet. The club sees Greenwood as a cost-effective option to reinforce their attacking lineup amidst financial constraints.

To pave the way for Greenwood’s arrival, Barcelona plans to offload a forward to create space in the squad, envisioning him in a left-sided attacking role, despite his preference for a central or right-sided position. Additionally, as part of Greenwood’s loan agreement with Getafe, the Spanish club is entitled to a portion of any transfer fee United receives, even if he joins another club like Barcelona.

While United is hoping to fetch over €30 million for Greenwood, Barcelona could explore avenues to lower the cost, potentially by including promising young talents from their renowned La Masia academy as part of the deal.

United is reportedly keenly aware of Barcelona’s youth setup, with several promising prospects identified as potential assets in negotiations for Greenwood’s transfer.
