While the striker didn’t join the team for their first game against Colombia, which ended in a 2-1 defeat for Selecao, he’s now anticipated to feature against their arch-rivals Argentina, the reigning world champions.
During a training session at Granja Comary on Sunday, Diniz positioned Gabriel Jesus in the attacking role, replacing the injured Vinicius Junior. Additionally, Carlos Augusto took the place of left-back Renan Lodi.
With only two victories from their initial five World Cup qualifiers, the five-time champions currently sit fifth in the standings, aspiring to secure a win against Argentina on their home ground to climb the points table.
Following Jesus’s national team selection, the Brazil manager reassured Arsenal of taking meticulous care of the player, expressing confidence that the striker would return to his club in improved condition.
Upon participating in the midweek match against Argentina, the 26-year-old will aim to return to action for Arsenal in their upcoming Premier League encounter against Brentford scheduled for Saturday.
