After Liverpool’s left-back nearly gets into a brawl with Manchester United’s Antony, Virgil van Dijk seems to berate Tsimikas.

Liverpool faced Manchester United in a significant English football clash on Sunday, where each team had different objectives in mind. Last season, Liverpool thrashed Erik ten Hag’s team 7-0 in this encounter, intensifying the tension visible in this recent match.

Tsimikas and Antony engaged in a brief scuffle, with Antony reaching the advertising board and gesturing with his hands. Tsimikas, Liverpool’s left-back, had the responsibility of keeping Brazilian Antony at bay during the game, which tested him midway through the first half.

While the United player was pursuing the ball towards the sideline, Tsimikas shielded it and allowed it to go out of play. Nevertheless, his actions seemed to displease fellow defender Van Dijk, who appeared to vocally caution Tsimikas, advising him to maintain composure and avoid unnecessary bookings.

Referee Michael Oliver handed out six yellow cards during the game, with Darwin Nunez, Wataru Endo, Kobbie Mainoo, Sofyan Amrabat, Luke Shaw, and Marcus Rashford all receiving bookings. Additionally, Diogo Dalot was booked and subsequently sent off after accumulating two yellow cards for different displays of dissent within seconds during stoppage time in the second half.

Tsimikas has not received any yellow or red cards while playing for Liverpool this season. Van Dijk likely hopes this streak continues, especially during the busy upcoming festive fixtures.

Despite Liverpool having numerous opportunities to score against United, their 34 shots failed to find the back of the net, resulting in a somewhat below-par performance. In a late second-half moment, Nunez missed an opportunity by not pursuing the ball, believing that Luis Diaz had been fouled in the box just moments earlier.

United’s biggest chance of the game came from Rasmus Hojlund, but his shot was directly at Alisson, and he remains without a Premier League goal.

At full-time, both teams settled for a point, although Liverpool might be more disappointed with the outcome, considering their dominance throughout the match.
