Liverpool are reportedly edging closer to securing the signing of Georgiy Sudakov from Shakhtar Donetsk, amidst a competitive pursuit involving multiple clubs vying for the talented attacking midfielder.

Despite Sudakov recently penning a new contract with Shakhtar, which now includes a hefty €150m release clause (£127.7m), Liverpool has emerged as frontrunners in the race for his signature, with their intensified focus on midfield dynamics being a key factor, according to Calciomercato.

However, Liverpool faces stiff competition from other European giants, including Juventus and Napoli, who are also eyeing Sudakov’s services. Yet, there is speculation that Sudakov may view a move to the Premier League, particularly to clubs like Liverpool or Manchester City, as a desirable prospect, given his ambition to compete in Europe’s top leagues.

Sudakov’s versatility and impressive performances for Shakhtar have caught the attention of top clubs. With 14 goals and assists apiece in 90 appearances, including Champions League outings, Sudakov has showcased his adaptability, capable of operating behind a striker, in central midfield, or even on the left flank.

While Liverpool’s midfield has seen recent additions, the potential arrival of Sudakov could depend on the tactical changes under a new manager post-Jurgen Klopp era. Given Liverpool’s recruitment focus last summer, a defensive midfielder might be a more realistic target, but the allure of Sudakov’s talent could sway their decision.

Considering Sudakov’s limited experience relative to his release clause, it’s unlikely that any club will meet the full €150m valuation. Nonetheless, the hefty clause serves as a deterrent for suitors, indicating Shakhtar’s determination to retain their prized asset.
