Mikel Arteta expressed optimism regarding the fitness of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli ahead of Arsenal’s upcoming Premier League clash against Brentford this Saturday.
Arsenal delivered a commanding performance in their recent 6-0 victory over Sheffield United, with Martinelli notably finding the back of the net before being substituted in the 63rd minute due to a minor foot injury, as Arteta revealed to reporters post-match.
Similarly, Saka was withdrawn at halftime due to feeling unwell. However, Arteta provided reassurance during a press conference on Thursday, stating his confidence that both players will be available for the upcoming match against Brentford, despite their minor setbacks.
“We had some players return last Monday, and Martinelli and Bukayo encountered minor issues, but we remain optimistic they will feature,” Arteta remarked, adding, “We’ll monitor their progress closely tomorrow.”
Saka, having contributed significantly with 16 goals and 15 assists this season, has been a consistent presence for Arsenal, missing just one league match so far.
Arsenal also welcomed back Gabriel Jesus and Thomas Partey in their dominant victory over Sheffield United. Jesus, who had been sidelined for five matches due to a knee injury, made his return, while Partey made a cameo appearance off the bench after a lengthy absence since August.
Aaron Ramsdale is set to start in goal this weekend, with David Raya ineligible to play against his parent club. Arteta commended Ramsdale’s readiness and determination to perform, despite limited game time this season, highlighting the depth and quality Arsenal possesses in the goalkeeper position.
“On Saturday, it will be a great opportunity for him,” Arteta affirmed, praising Ramsdale’s commitment and attitude in training. He emphasized the challenge of managing players who may not always receive the playing time they deserve, underscoring the importance of maintaining a positive and supportive team environment.
