Notable Arsenal supporter Piers Morgan condemned the behavior of the booing fans, labeling them as “classless” on social media, emphasizing Rice’s contributions to their club.
Nevertheless, Rice remained unfazed by the reception, displaying his quality on the pitch by scoring a goal and providing two assists in Arsenal’s commanding 6-0 triumph. His pinpoint deliveries from set pieces led to goals for William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes, before he showcased his own prowess with a spectacular long-range strike in the 66th minute. However, out of respect for his former club, Rice refrained from celebrating his goal.
Former Premier League midfielder Michael Brown, providing commentary for BBC Radio 5 Live, expressed admiration for Rice’s goal and his composed reaction, highlighting the midfielder’s versatility and determination. Despite not outwardly celebrating, Rice’s internal drive was evident.
Upon being substituted in the 67th minute, Rice received a warmer reception from the West Ham faithful. Arsenal’s emphatic victory leaves them just two points behind league leaders Liverpool, positioning them firmly in the title race. Brown commended Arsenal’s performance, especially considering the doubts raised following their previous result against Liverpool. He emphasized the importance of confidence-building victories and expressed optimism about Arsenal’s prospects in the title race, particularly given their upcoming fixtures.
