Romano claims a £100 million transfer. “It’s Pretty Obvious.” Hint Regarding January Move from Chelsea Target

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Ivan Toney, a target for Chelsea in the transfer market, is open to changing teams in the current January transfer window. Toney expressed his desire to join a “top club” either this month or at the end of the season, sparking speculation about a possible move to Stamford Bridge. However, Romano tempered expectations, emphasizing that while Toney is eager for a transfer, potential suitors must meet Brentford’s lofty valuation.

Romano clarified that Toney’s statements do not seem like an attempt to force an exit from Brentford or attract offers from other clubs but rather an honest expression of his ambition. Despite the striker’s public remarks, Romano asserted that there have been no developments in the situation.

Brentford is reportedly demanding a substantial fee for Toney, with some reports suggesting an asking price as high as £100 million. Despite having less than 18 months left on his contract, the club is reluctant to part ways with Toney, especially considering the risk of being drawn into a relegation battle. Retaining Toney is viewed as a top priority for Brentford, as his goal-scoring prowess could be crucial in securing Premier League survival.

Given the substantial financial implications of losing top-flight status, Chelsea is exploring alternative short-term solutions in the January transfer window before making a significant move for a new No.9 in the summer. Players such as Karim Benzema from Al-Ittihad and Roberto Firmino from Al-Ahli have been suggested as potential options available on loan. Additionally, the club has expressed interest in Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran as part of their considerations for the upcoming transfer opportunities.
