The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) recently overturned the red card given to Mason Greenwood, the Manchester United loanee, on Tuesday evening. Referee Jorge Figueroa Vazquez initially issued a straight red card, misunderstanding Greenwood’s words as ‘f*** off’ after a foul on him.
However, Getafe presented video evidence in their appeal, clarifying that Greenwood actually said ‘one, two, three, four [fouls], f***.’ The referee misinterpreted the expletive, assuming it was directed at him, although it wasn’t explicitly aimed at him.
Acknowledging their error, the RFEF nullified Greenwood’s suspension, ensuring he won’t miss any upcoming Getafe games, much to the relief of the team since Greenwood has been a pivotal player this season.
A statement provided by Tuttomercatoweb stated, “The thorough review of the footage conclusively proved that the incident leading to the expulsion didn’t unfold as described by the referee. These images confirm the material mistake in the referee’s report. They establish that the player indeed uttered ‘One, two, three, four,’ followed by a specific four-letter swear word, as outlined in the club’s letter and confirmed by the sworn translator’s report.”
