Liverpool’s sporting director, Jorg Schmadtke, is set to depart Anfield at the end of the season despite having recently joined the club in the summer.

After Julian Ward’s departure from the role, the German entered into a short-term contract with the Premier League giants. He is expected to oversee operations with Liverpool during January before concluding his tenure ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window, as reported by Sky Germany.

During Schmadtke’s tenure, Liverpool orchestrated a midfield overhaul before the 2023/24 season, securing the arrivals of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, and Ryan Gravenberch while bidding farewell to the club’s stalwarts Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, and James Milner.

Now, the departing German sporting director aims to finalize any remaining business for the season in January. Klopp and Liverpool may explore the addition of a center-back to their roster to fill the void left by the injured Joel Matip.
