Pochettino is in disbelief when Fabrizio Romano makes the worst Chelsea hears news of Victor Osimhen

Football insider Fabrizio Romano has delivered discouraging news to Chelsea in their pursuit of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

Chelsea took a risk entering the current season with only one fit striker, Nicolas Jackson, after Christopher Nkunku suffered a pre-season injury. Despite Armando Broja’s return to fitness and Nkunku’s impending return, Chelsea has been linked with a big-money move for Osimhen in the upcoming transfer window.

However, Romano’s latest tweet suggests a setback for Chelsea’s hopes, stating that Napoli has reached a preliminary agreement with Osimhen for a new contract, including a substantial release clause ranging between €130m and €140m. Sky Sport Italia also supports these reports, indicating that Osimhen is close to signing a contract extension following discussions between his agent Roberto Calenda and Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis.

De Laurentiis had previously mentioned reaching an agreement to extend Osimhen’s stay at the Stadio Maradona. Osimhen’s current deal runs until June 2025, and the extension includes an additional season. The Nigerian striker is anticipated to receive a significant pay rise alongside the sizable release clause, intended to deter potential suitors.

Both parties are expected to meet again, likely on Thursday, to finalize the remaining details of Osimhen’s extension. Despite the contract extension, transfer speculation might persist, although the substantial release clause is likely to discourage potential suitors.

Chelsea is set to play against Sheffield United in the Premier League on Saturday.
