Liverpool, Manchester United, and Bayern Munich have received confirmation that Florian Wirtz will undoubtedly depart Bayer Leverkusen, although a potential transfer is more likely to materialize at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season.

Wirtz, a 20-year-old attacking midfielder who can adeptly function as a winger on either side, initially honed his skills at the FC Koln academy before transitioning to Leverkusen U19s in January 2020.

Swiftly integrated into Leverkusen’s senior squad, Wirtz began carving a niche for himself during the 2020-21 season, showcasing his prowess with eight goals and eight assists across 38 matches in various competitions.

The subsequent season saw Wirtz reach even greater heights, tallying an impressive 10 goals and 14 assists in 31 appearances. However, his progress was halted by an ACL injury in March 2022, truncating his season and sidelining him for a significant part of the following term as well.

Although his return to Leverkusen’s first team in January didn’t yield immediate impact, recent performances have quashed concerns about his form. Under the guidance of manager Xabi Alonso, Wirtz has thrived, prompting significant interest from Liverpool, who are reportedly serious contenders for his signature. Joining the pursuit are rivals Manchester United, while Bayern Munich also holds a strong admiration for the player.

Sources have confirmed to TEAMtalk that Liverpool holds a keen interest in the midfielder, closely monitoring his performances this season.

A recent development from Germany concerning Wirtz’s future includes an interview with his father, Hans-Joachim Wirtz. He indicated a current focus on Florian continuing at Leverkusen for the upcoming season.

Additionally, Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg highlighted Hans-Joachim Wirtz’s remarks, stating that a transfer for Wirtz is firmly planned for the summer of 2025. This provides ample time for clubs like Liverpool and Manchester United to prepare for a substantial transfer, although they will need to wait for Wirtz’s availability.

However, there’s a significant possibility of Wirtz remaining in Germany, as Bayern expresses a keen desire for his services. Plettenberg mentioned that Wirtz prefers a move to the Allianz Arena over other potential suitors, presenting a potential challenge for the Premier League giants in securing his transfer.
